I live by the coast in Northumberland and paint large sea paintings, abstracts, draw with pen and ink and make driftwood pictures.
"Seeing the sea everyday, it became omnipresent in my life. I now recognise it grabbed me rather than the other way around."
"I don't think I will ever tire of painting the sea with its different moods, colours and light reflected in the waves and sky. I work to create a painting with spirit and feeling. If someone comments that they feel they could get their toes wet in a picture then I am very pleased."
I am originally from the Borders and graduated from Edinburgh College of Art, before moving to the south of England to paint murals. My mother Geraldine is also a painter, creating contemporary landscapes, while my late father, John Gubbins, painted watercolours of houses surrounded by their abundant gardens. I moved to Cheswick in 2005 and have became best known for my atmospheric seascapes, inspired by daily visits to the beach with my dogs.
